I'm Lottie! Founder of Tap Type Talk and a parent/carer communication expert.
My passion for supporting my non-speaking autistic son, Josh, has evolved into empowering other families and professionals through my Tap Type Talk advocacy work.
For years, my son couldn't talk, so I helped him find his voice through an NHS-funded speech device, which he still uses today at the age of 11.
More recently, I successfully secured an adapted speech disorder assessment on the NHS, which led to a diagnosis of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (a rare speech disorder).
Unexpectedly, this opened up access to intensive speech therapy sessions, and, even more amazingly, it helped my son find his spoken voice!
Today, my son is a multimodal communicator - part speech device, part mouth words, part typing (Tap, Type, Talk - a proven model for empowering communication!).
Other Credentials
Whilst I am not a speech and language therapist, I have always had a passion for languages (French degree - ooh, la la!), and I used to travel the world in corporate consultative sales and marketing roles - I love talking with people!
More recently, I have worked as a Teaching Assistant in a mainstream primary school, supporting children with SEN and leading their daily speech interventions.
I am proud to be an official Friend of Speech Apraxia International, a global apraxia organisation.
And delighted that videos of Josh talking are used for speech and language training purposes to support greater understanding and knowledge of how Childhood Apraxia of Speech presents in non-speaking autistic individuals.
